A delegation composed of faculty members and graduate students of the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Engineering flocked to Kaohsiung City on 28 September - 01 October 2019 for a four-day visit to three universities known for their engineering programs, and manufacturing firms in Southern Taiwan.
Comprised of 43 graduate student participants, the delegation visit was arranged as part of the requirements of the graduate course, ME 180: Inspection Trips and Seminars Class. Accompanied by two faculty members, namely, college Dean Ferdinand Manegdeg and Asst. Prof. Roderaid Ibañez, the delegation also decided to use the opportunity to conduct networking and commence initial talks for future partnerships with their university counterparts in Kaohsiung. Three universities in Kaohsiung City welcomed the UP delegation, namely, the National Sun Yat Sen University, National University of Kaohsiung, and the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology. Edu-Connect also brought the delegation to three manufacturing firms in Kaohsiung, namely, the China Steel Structure Co. Ltd., Advance Semiconductor Enterprise, and the Solar Panel Plant of Kaohsiung-Pingtung area. Per delegation participants, this visit served as an instrumental opportunity since the facilities offered by these institutions in Southern Taiwan were considered as viable academic options given the shortage in the Philippines of these laboratory facilities and machinery necessary for the completion of faculty and student researches.
