HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Since 2015, interaction between Philippine and Southern Taiwan universities have been existing through the pioneering efforts of the University of the Philippines System, Shu-Te University and Southern Taiwan University Alliance (STUA).
In 2016, the Taiwan-Philippines Academic Networking Platform was launched through the initiative of some faculty members of the University of the Philippines (UP) System, National Sun Yat Sen University (NSYSU), National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU), and Shu Te University (STU). Since then, exchanges and delegations from Philippine universities visiting Kaohsiung City for purposes of academic collaborations increased as UP campuses outside Manila, and other universities in the National Capital Region began reaching out to their counterparts in Southern Taiwan. Among these schools were the UP Cebu, Lyceum of the Philippines University, University of Santo Tomas, and Technological University of the Philippines.
The following years, 2017-2018, saw to the dramatic increase of interaction and exchanges not only with state and private universities in the Philippines but also with Philippine cities such as Cebu, Los Baños, and Bacolod. Topics of collaboration among Philippine universities during this period include:

Throughout 2019, academic exchanges were sustained, with the Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association likewise interacting with the Asian Development Bank, City Government of Mandaluyong, and National Economic Development Authority for the institutionalization of long-term development projects in the Philippines.
On 1 June 2019, the Edu-Connect signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office for the launch of the MECO/Edu-Connect Training Network in Asia, a start-up project to further facilitate exchanges between Filipino and Taiwanese academic, business, industry sectors, and local government units through the conduct of knowledge- and technology-based thematic training visits to Southern Taiwan.
